U.S. Surgeon General Issues New Advisory on Link Between Alcohol and Cancer Risk

January 3, 2025

The U.S. Surgeon General released a public health advisory regarding the established link between alcohol consumption and an increased risk of cancer. This advisory underscores growing evidence that alcohol use, even at low levels, can contribute to various types of cancer, including those of the mouth, throat, liver, and breast.

The advisory calls for increased public awareness and offers guidance for reducing alcohol-related cancer risk. This serves as a timely reminder of our ongoing efforts to improve alcohol policy and reinforces the importance of our collective work in promoting public health and raising awareness about the risks associated with alcohol and cancer.
